Housing Navigation Services

Housing Navigation is a support service for people with disabilities that determines which housing options best support individual needs.

How do I know if Housing Navigation is right for me?

Housing Navigation may be the right choice if you are:

  • A parent of an adult child with a disability, and you want to plan for their future;
  • An adult with complex housing needs due to a disability;
  • Looking for community-based living options and you need support;
  • Living with family, and you are ready for more independence;

What is a Housing Navigator?

A Certified Housing Navigator has completed an intensive training course offered by the NY Housing Resource Center, a division of the NY Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation.

How does Housing Navigation work?

Housing Navigators use a person-centered approach to evaluate each person’s financial resources, benefits, support needs and lifestyle preferences. This process is outcome-oriented and time-limited. There are three stages:

  1. Initial housing assessment
  2. Development of a housing plan
  3. Implementation of the housing plan
