Initiatives

WIHD has the opportunity to partner with other organizations to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families/caregivers.  Partnerships include initiatives with:

  • New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH)
  • Developmental Disability Planning Council (DDPC)
  • Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities at the University of Rochester
  • Rose F. Kennedy Center at Einstein/Montefiore

These opportunities allow for a collaborative approach to reach individuals, families and communities throughout the state to conduct needs assessments, improve existing services and offer new programs.

Enabling and Assistive Technology to Promote Non-Certified Housing Options for Individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities

With funding from the Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC), WIHD has initiated a three year project (4/1/2021 – 3/31/2024) that ensures the availability of enabling and/or assistive technology (ET/AT) for individuals with IDD. The project will collaborate with three Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (TRAID) sites across New York State to support and provide ET/AT to identified project participants.
