BRIEF BIO / PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS

Dr. Nicole Turygin is a licensed psychologist in the state of New York with a background in Clinical Psychology. She has over 10 years of experience working with challenging behaviors and co-occurring psychiatric conditions in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She uses an individualized approach to treatment using methods based on Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavioral and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and related treatment modalities. Her practice includes adults and children all ages and ability levels using evidence-based behavioral interventions. Her clinical interests include treatment of anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and psychotic disorders, and challenging behavior in individuals with autism and developmental disorders.

DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH INTERESTS/ACTIVITIES

Dr. Turygin’s research currently focuses on developing effective treatment for avoidance of medical procedures in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is also interested in the development of treatment and assessment approaches for co-occurring disorders and severe behavior disorders in persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Dr. Turygin is currently involved in a research project investigating a behavioral intervention for avoidance of medical procedures, especially blood draws, and leads a LEND team conducting research on this topic.
