Featured Story:
“Because of you, vulnerable children receive the most comprehensive and state of the art treatments our superbly trained team of experts can offer.”

At 12 years old, Victoria was placed in foster care as result of profound neglect.  Sadly, she disclosed being sexually abused by her father and told of a pattern of abuse that had gone on for many years.  Victoria was assigned to work with one of our exceptional clinicians who has specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).  Before, Victoria had only known the abuse – it became part of her identity and her relationship with her father.  Through therapy, she began to identify her thoughts and feelings about the abuse — she came up with strategies to reduce some of the trauma symptoms she had experienced.

With the help of her therapist, Victoria was able to tell her story and describe in detail what her father had done for years.  Ultimately, she was able to understand the truth about her situation and stop blaming herself in any way.  As she healed, she saw this critical difference:  abuse was something that had happened to her but it would not continue to define her.  Many of her trauma symptoms disappeared and she found comfort and strength in knowing how to protect herself from future abuse.

Our dedicated staff has trained to become expert in trauma focused interventions.  They help children like Victoria. They treat symptoms of post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, sexualized behaviors, and feelings of shame and mistrust.

Because of you, Victoria found a champion with the specialized skills to help her confront the pain of her past and guide her on her road to recovery.
