SUMMARY:Preparing for Your Child's Annual Review
DESCRIPTION:Location:  Columbus Elementary School\, Thornwood\, NY \nPresenter:  Stephanie Bellantoni\, Outreach Coordinator\, Hudson Valley Special Education Parent Center \nThe most critical realization for parents is that they are integral PARTNERS in the special education process\, despite the inevitable differences of opinion.  This workshop will start with the purpose of the annual review (or any program review really)\, how the CSE team maneuvers through the various sections of the IEP in their discussion\, and measures parents can take to effectively prepare for the annual review so as to properly engage in the CSE meeting.  Parents will be guided through the process of creating a binder for pertinent documents in an effort to organize their thoughts and issues prior to the annual review.  They will be introduced to essential tools available on the HVSEPC website to support them in their preparation.  Last\, the discussion will cover a parent’s options in the case of a CSE team that cannot reach consensus.  Click here for event flyer and registration. \n

SUMMARY:Planning for Life After High School (in both English and Spanish)
DESCRIPTION:Location:  Park Elementary School\, Ossining\, New York \nPresenter:  Stephanie  Bellantoni and Lulu Bencosme (bilingual)\, Outreach Coordinators\, HVSEPC \nThis is an important presentation for parents of children of all ages.  It is never too soon to think about transition to life after high school\, since the decisions we make and the educational programs to which our children are exposed pave the way for their opportunities following the K-12 years.  The presentation will address the expanding high school credential and exiting options for students with disabilities.   Then the discussion will move chronologically from age 12 when the Level 1 Career Assessment is conducted\, to 7th and 8th grade during which that Career Assessment is incorporated into the IEP\, and finally into the high school years when the IEP grows significantly in terms of various sections addressing transition needs and services.  The discussion will include post-secondary measurable goals\, high school transition service needs\, and the coordinated set of transition activities.  Click here for event flyer and registration.

SUMMARY:Preparing for Your Child's Annual Review
DESCRIPTION:Location:  Fox Meadow Elementary School\, Scarsdale\, NY \nPresenter:  Stephanie Bellantoni\, Outreach Coordinator\, HVSEPC \nThe most critical realization for parents is that they are integral PARTNERS in the special education process\, despite the inevitable differences of opinion.  This workshop will start with the purpose of the annual review (or any program review really)\, how the CSE team maneuvers through the various sections of the IEP in their discussion\, including quality IEP goals\, and measures parents can take to effectively prepare for the annual review so as to properly engage in the CSE meeting.
