DESCRIPTION:Note: This is a four-hour training. January sessions are 4-6 pm over 2 dates\, January 22 and January 29. Four hours must be completed to receive certification. \nVirtual 4 hour training done in two parts. SUMMARY:Students with Disabilities and School Discipline\, Codes of Conduct\, and Students’ Rights
DESCRIPTION:Federal and State law provide protections for students with disabilities as it relates to\nstudent discipline. Students with IEPs and 504 plans may face out of school\nsuspensions or other penalties as set forth in their district’s code of conduct. This\npresentation will address proactive steps to address conduct before it leads to\ndiscipline. There will also be a conversation on the procedural safeguards required\nwhen an out-of-school suspension is imposed by a school district. The presenters\nwill emphasize the importance of alternatives and how that can be accomplished\ngiven the laws. DESCRIPTION:Life-skills\, or daily living skills\, are abilities that our loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities need to achieve their highest level of independence. These include skills related to managing money\, personal hygiene\, medication management\, taking care of living spaces\, safety\, laundry\, cooking\, transportation\, and shopping. Please join us for a workshop for caregivers and self-advocates about supporting life-skills learning for children\, teens and young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. \nWorkshop 2 will cover the process of teaching and reinforcing life-skills.
