Leyla Liana is a visitor from Tanzania who has spent the past 4 weeks here at WIHD working in the Assistive Technology Program. She is an assistant lecturer in computer science at Dodoma University. She came to us as part of an ADA International Fellowship program through AUCD. Her interest is in developing apps for teaching reading to students with disabilities, in their native language of Kiswahili. She loved not only what she learned at WIHD, but also the experiences in New York City and surrounding areas. Her interaction with the staff here at WIHD also reminded us of all the access we and our clients have to supports and services that we sometimes take for granted. Leyla will be leaving WIHD tomorrow for a final wrap up session in DC, with AUCD and the State Department, before heading home on the 18th. It was an enriching experience for us and her to have this exchange.
