Parent-to-Parent Program
The Hudson Valley Region Office of Parent to Parent of NYS
is a parent-staffed program to assist families of children with
disabilities and special health needs. Our network provides
support and encouragement to other parents in seven counties
(Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Orange, Ulster and
Dutchess). This confidential and no-fee service matches parents
with similar situations. Parents are matched on a one-to-one
basis and receive support through telephone contacts, visits
to home, hospital, or at the center.
The Family Resource Lending Library. Our
library contains books, videos, newsletters, articles, and comprehensive
resource guides on topics related to family issues and disabilities.
Information and Referral. We have
information for families about programs and services. We can
provide information about healthcare, networking activities,
advocacy and community leadership.
Parent Speakers Network. Our staff
members and parent volunteers are available to train professionals
in the fields of health, education and human services.
School and Community Network. We
serve as a referral network for families who are relocating
and wish to speak to other families about the schools and community
resources.
Hospital Visiting Program. Parent
coordinators are available to visit families of children with
disabilities who are hospitalized at Westchester Medical Center
or at outpatient/pediatric clinics. We provide support, information
and advocacy.
Parent to Parent Newsletter. Hudson
Valley Connections (pdf) is published quarterly to
provide parents with contact information, links to helpful websites,
and news of upcoming events and training dates.
