The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Training Program

Lend Program Graduates at Poster SessionThe LEND Program seeks to recruit advanced graduate students and post graduates in health and education fields who desire to advance their knowledge and skills in preparation for a leadership role working with children with disabilities and other special health care needs and their families.

Many trainees complete the LEND program as a component of full-time training associated with graduate or post-graduate study. The Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers stipend support through a grant.

WIHD recruits LEND trainees from the following disciplines:

  • Audiology
  • Child Psychiatry
  • Developmental Pediatrics
  • Family Specialist
  • Health Administration
  • Nursing
  • Nutrition
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Psychology
  • Public Health
  • Social Work
  • Special Education
  • Speech-Language Pathology

LEND program can be a component of full-time training associated with graduate or post-graduate studyThe curriculum includes a didactic overview course, clinical experiences at WIHD and in the community, and various leadership and public policy activities. Each trainee participates in a public health or clinical research project and several leadership activities, including family mentoring, community training and technical assistance, and family advocacy.
