LEND Meeting with the New York State Department of Health in Albany
On April 17th, The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) Program trainees traveled to Albany to meet with representatives from the Department of Health to present their LEND "Evidence Based Projects". Christopher A. Kus, MD, MPH, Pediatric Director, Division of Family Health from the NYS Department of Health welcomed the LEND program trainees and faculty to a day long session during which trainees held a poster session and made oral presentations to several members of the DOH and the Office of Children and Family Services.
The LEND presentations covered the following topics:
- Services for Foster Care Families
- School Age Assistive Technology Programs
- Follow-up of High Risk Neonates
- Follow up of Young Children Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Technical Assistance Tools for Providers Working with Parents with Cognitive Disabilities
- Assessment of Consumer Awareness and Understanding of Newborn Screening
The Department of Health followed with a presentation on their top priorities and objectives and discussion ensued on how LEND could incorporate those topics into future projects.
The meeting was such a success and the presentations were so well received that the Department of Health representatives suggested the possibility of extending the session next year into a two day event.
