Internship in Psychology
WIHD offers predoctoral internships and post-doctoral fellowships
with a concentration in pediatric and clinical psychology and
developmental disabilities. Each trainee undertakes supervised
assessment and intervention activities in two to three WIHD
programs. Pre- and post-doctoral psychology trainees participate
in the LEND Training Program,
within which they develop leadership skills and participate
in Institute research projects. Some psychology training stipends
are funded through Maternal
and Child Health Bureau Fellowships (via the WIHD LEND Program).
The sequence of training is designed to promote and mentor
exemplary skills in psychology and to enhance emerging leadership
competencies from an interdisciplinary framework. Psychology
trainees develop skills including:
- Psychological and developmental assessment and intervention
- Interdisciplinary assessment and intervention
- Partnerships with families
- Consultation and technical assistance to education, health
and social service agencies
- Team leadership
The minimum time commitment required is three days per week;
all professional and clinical activities are supervised by licensed
psychologists. Pre- and post-doctoral trainees are assigned
to activities based on academic preparation and prior training,
existing and desired areas of competency and expertise, and
psychology training objectives. Major and minor rotations may
be completed within Early
Childhood Services, LEAP,
Family Program,
Positive
Behavior Supports, and Special
