Early Childhood Services
Overview
Every child deserves the best possible start. We aim to achieve this by
supporting families as they nurture their child's development. That
means timely identification of developmental delays and disabilities and
early intervention when it is needed.
In partnership with families, WIHD Early Childhood Services provides
developmental assessment and intervention for children birth to five.
Children and families benefit most when parent concerns and priorities
are at the heart of assessment and intervention. The Early Childhood
staff at WIHD is dedicated to addressing family needs and concerns in a
trusting atmosphere. Evaluation and intervention are planned together
with families, and we work hard to ensure that assessments and
intervention plans reflect the child's full range of abilities and
needs.
WIHD Early Childhood Services includes our Early Intervention Program (birth to age three) and Preschool Services (age three to five).
We
provide:
- assessment and intervention (at home, at WIHD, and throughout the
community)
- consultation and technical assistance to families, school districts,
early intervention and preschool providers, preschools, child care
centers, and public and private agencies
- training, continuing education, and dissemination to support best
practices for young children with disabilities and their families
- instruction in graduate education and certificate programs to
individuals seeking careers in early intervention through the NY Medical
College School of Public Health
leadership training in developmental disabilities through the WIHD LEND
Fellowship
