How the graciousness of others makes the holidays
brighter for children in foster care in Westchester County.
Every December, the staff at the Family Program at WIHD collaborate
with departments from the Westchester Medical Center, local
organizations, churches and scout troops, as well as individual
families, to provide gifts and food for needy families to help
them celebrate the holidays. Because those who give the gifts
"adopt" a particular child or family, they can fill
their "wish lists", providing special pleasure to
those who are giving the gifts.
The staff of the Family Program extend their most sincere gratitude
and appreciation to everyone who participated in the Adopt-a-Family
Program.
Wendy Breitner, Director of the Family Program, was honored
on May 31st by the Westchester Foster Parent's Association.
Dr. Breitner was honored for all the work she has done at
the Family Program supporting children and helping parents in
foster care.
Ms. Beth Reiman, was honored at the Annual Awards Luncheon
for the Westchester Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect. She
is a Social Worker with the Family Program at WIHD and works
as a coordinator in the Parent-Child Program.
Ms.
Reiman received the award for her commitment to permanency planning
for children in foster care and their families. Ms. Reiman,
along with another colleague, developed a parent training curriculum.
This is a a guide for others who work with parents.
She has worked at the Family Program for 15 years and is a
valued member of the treatment team. Ms. Reiman also works with
students training them in the field.
Congratulations to Ms. Reiman!
Quote from Beth Reiman: "It was
easy to be able to do this because I work with people who really
are committed to child welfare goals; they are committed to
helping children in foster care return to their birth parents."
