Children's Advocacy Center

The Children's Advocacy Center is a child-friendly environment where professionals can complete a sensitive, competent, efficient, interdisciplinary assessment of abused children, while providing the children and their families with the support and services that they need. The staff consists of a medical director, program coordinator, and a nurse, along with clerical support staff.

The Advocacy Center team works closely with the Westchester County Child Abuse Investigation Team, as well as other representatives from the legal, medical and mental health fields. Having the ability to conduct an interdisciplinary assessment of an abused child during a single visit to the Center helps to minimize further trauma, and increases the likelihood of positive outcomes for the child and family.

Services provided by the Children's Advocacy Center include:

Forensic medical assessments of children and adolescents who may have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse or neglect. Our forensic pediatrician utilizes state-of-the-art technology, including laboratory and radiological evaluations

Expert medical opinions by a forensic pediatrician in cases of child abuse and neglect

Expert testimony for family and criminal court

Joint forensic investigations together with staff from law enforcement, Child Protective Services, the District Attorney's Office, and others as needed

Immediate mental health assessment and crisis intervention

Trauma assessments

Interdisciplinary case conferences to enhance case management

Telephone consultation by medical and social work professionals regarding issues of child abuse and neglect
