Guy Valiquette, M.D.
Physician, Adult Health Services
After completing his clinical training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in 1976, Dr. Valiquette pursued his interests in endocrine research as a research fellow of the Medical Research Council of Canada at the Istituto di Endocrinologia in Milan, Italy, and later at Columbia University in New York. He remained on faculty at Columbia University from 1981 until 2000 when he joined the Westchester Institute for Human Development and New York Medical College. From 1992 to 1995, Dr. Valiquette led the Genesis project at Letchworth Village Developmental Center and played a significant role in the deinstitutionalization of the residents of that Center. In 1995, he became Associate Medical Director for Letchworth Developmental Disabilities Services Office (now Hudson Valley DDSO), and became Medical Director in 1997.
Since joining WIHD, Dr. Valiquette has participated in the LEND teaching program and has worked closely with other WIHD/UCDD faculty to develop research programs and obtain research funding. He has been active in educating other health care professionals in the regional and national arenas on special aspects of the health care of individuals with disabilities. He also teaches medical students at NYMC and residents and fellows at Westchester Medical Center. He is an active member of the Endocrine division at WMC.
