Behavioral Health

People with developmental disabilities, special medical, physical or learning challenges, can do their best when they feel their best. Behavioral Health is one of the services at WIHD that helps adults and children find ways to feel better and do better. The WIHD Behavioral Health program recognizes that all people can have worries or behaviors that prevent them from participating as fully in life as they would like. Our services are geared to working on ways to change that.

Our services

The services offered at our Behavioral Health program are for adults or children with new or existing problems that interfere with their ability to manage school, work, or home life.

These problems are often described as:
  • anger, aggression, restlessness, lack of cooperation
  • self-injurious behavior(s)
  • sadness, anxiety, sleepiness, loss of appetite, lack of enjoyment of activities
  • loneliness, isolation, avoidance of people and activities
  • compulsive thinking, repetitive behavior

Services are provided by appointment only, and may involve a variety of professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers.

To make an appointment, call our central phone number at 914.493.8170. You will reach a staff member but sometimes you may have to leave a message on our voice mail. Someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

People who have urgent problems and cannot wait for an appointment at WIHD can go directly to the Behavioral Health Emergency Room at WMC or call the Mobile Crisis Team at 914.493.7076 for immediate help.
