Training Leaders

Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND)

Advancing initiatives in early detection, effective treatments, and advocacy in autism spectrum disorders requires leaders who are highly trained in all neurodevelopmental disabilities and their systems of care. The LEND program at WIHD provides such training and includes modules on autism. These trainees also have opportunities to participate in research on autism.

The LEND Program seeks to recruit advanced graduate students and post graduates in health and education fields who desire to advance their knowledge and skills in preparation for a leadership role working with children with disabilities and other special health care needs and their families.  Our program is one of 35 LEND Programs nationwide, funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau with the goal of improving the health of infants, children, and adolescents with disabilities by preparing trainees from diverse professional disciplines to assume leadership roles in their respective fields and by insuring high levels of interdisciplinary clinical competence.

Continuing Education

Professionals who work with children with autism and other special health care needs and their families must stay up-to-date through continuing education.  WIHD offers a variety of continuing education programs, workshops, and distance education offerings on a variety of topics as well as links to other continuing education programs for maternal and child health professionals.
